Here we spend time studying the seven letters Jesus Himself sends via an angel, via the apostle John to the seven churches of Asia Minor. In each we find Jesus commending certain behaviors, rebuking others, providing counsel and warning. Each letter is profoundly relevant to the church today. It is striking that all of this comes after John tells us we are blessed to read, hear, and apply this letter’s teaching due to the time being near. Each of these letters could be preceded by “The time is near, so…” Jesus is saying, “Because I am coming back hears what you ought to be thinking about.” And it isn’t when He’s going to come or how afraid you should be or how excited you should – it is a focus on faithfulness.
